Cleaning Cabinet Finish
Your kitchen cabinets have been finished with a coating, which will provide long-term protection against damage and is also safe for both you and the environment. This is one of the most durable finishes available, and it will only require a small amount of effort on your part to keep it clean. All you need to do is wipe the cabinet surfaces with a soft cotton cloth wetted with a mild solution of liquid dishwashing detergent and water. Ultra Ivory Special Care dishwashing liquid or Lemon Fresh Sunlight dishwashing liquid are two readily available household cleansers that can be used to maintain a new- looking appearance.
Be sure to avoid cream cleaners or any cleaning products that contain abrasives, as they will scratch the surface and dull your finish. Bleaches, ammonia, and solvent-based cleaners should not be used either.
When you are storing products containing ammonia, be sure that they are kept securely sealed and in their original containers to avoid your cabinetry becoming yellowed due to exposure to ammonic fumes.
To avoid water spots from forming on your finish, be sure to wipe the surfaces dry. Waxes or other products designed for untreated wood are not recommended as they may change the sheen and make your finish look either too shiny or too dull.
Water spills inside the cabinet should be wiped dry immediately to ensure that standing water does not cause swelling or de-lamination of the melamine (engineered-board) core material.
Adjusting Cabinet Shelves
To reconfigure the height of your shelves, first ensure that all items are cleared off both the shelf being moved and the shelf below it.
Second, remove the cabinet doors. This will make it easier to remove the shelf. The clip on hinges make this task simple and quick.
To remove the door from the cabinet pull the tab at the back of the hinge towards you and gently pull the door away from the hinge. While firmly holding the door to ensure that it doesn’t fall, repeat the same step for the remaining hinges. See (Figure 1 & 2)
To re-install the door, line up the bar at the front of the hinge with the slots on the hinge plate and gently push on the back of the hinge until the hinge tab snaps into place. See (Figure 3)
Third, locate the shelf you want to move. With the doors removed you are able to slide the shelf strait out of the cabinet allowing you to remove and replace the shelf support clips into the desired predrilled location.
To reinstall the shelf, place it on top of the vertically aligned clips and push down on it until it snaps into place. Make sure that the top retainer portion of each clip is hooked over top of the shelf.
Note: Three-door cabinets or cabinets with a vertical divider between the doors will have an additional shelf chip behind each shelf. In these instances the shelves need to all be removed by depressing the support clips to allow the shelf to be removed by pushing upwards on the shelf to release it from the clip. Drop each shelf to the bottom of the cabinet and then adjust your support clip locations and reinstall the each shelf in the new location.
